Distracted workers excel with treatment and coaching

When I read: "The cost to the economy, they say, is about $20 billion in lost workplace productivity and, for each individual, thousands of dollars a year in diminished earning capacity", I find it alarming. Without the office secretaries available in the past ADHDers are not suffering financially because they can't do the job they were paid to do (teach, sell, invest, whatever). It's the paperwork that gets in the way.

ADHD Diagnosis

ADHD facts about diagnosis procedure are difficult to find. There doesn't appear to be a particular protocol for diagnosing ADHDers. Some feel that ADHD is overdiagnosed while the research seems to support the opposite.

Undiagnosed ADHD in Adults

Driven by media hype, the general popular believes that ADHD is overdiagnosed, when in fact studies seem to reveal that quite the opposite is also true.

Research shows that the level of Dopamine Transporters alone cannot determine severity of ADHD symptoms

The US Department of Energy in collaboration with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine just completed research that shows that the level of dopamine transporters in people with ADHD cannot be used to diagnose patients with ADHD. The study found that people with ADHD had high levels of dopamine transporters in some parts of the brain and lower in others. Other studies showed inconsistent results. As a result the levels of dopamine transporters cannot be used to diagnose people with ADHD.

A summary of some of the ADHD research

This is a summary of some of the research that has been done on ADHD to help determine ways to diagnose ADHD. To date there is no way to consistently diagnose ADHD. Despite this the author wants us to understand that it does not mean that it does not exist or that it is a scapegoat for bad behaviour.

While some of the information provided on some of the research results is a bit over most people's head, you may find it reassuring that there are some real differences found between the ADHD brain and the non-ADHD brain, meaning that this is not an invented problem. As someone who lives with two wonderful ADHDers who have struggled their wholes lives to be "like everyone else", I'm happy that some people are stepping up to the plate and defunking the ney-sayers who have been brainwashed into thinking ADHD does not exist.

ADHD really does exist - the research proves it.

An interesting study of the impact of neurofeedback in helping ADHD children with ADHD improve their ability to pay attention by training them to regulate their brain states through EEG biofeedback. EEG (electroencephalography) is a non-invasive way to measure brain activity. In children with ADHD there is slowing of brain activity in the prefrontal cortex of the brain.
