What ADHD coaching is not

ADHD Coaching is a partnership where the client is the expert of their life and the coach is the expert of the coaching process. It is quite different from therapy and consulting.

Many professionals who do not understand what coaching is, mistake for therapy or consulting.

How is ADHD coaching different from therapy?

Therapy focuses on diagnosing and affecting emotional healing. Because of the expert-client relationship between therapist and client, there is always a worry that the client will build a dependency on the therapist.

With Coaching, the focus is on taking action to move you forward in your life to achieve your goals and develop strategies that enable to you to overcome the challenges of every day life (procrastination, time management, organizing, communication skills). Some clients work with a therapist to heal the pains of the past while at the same time, working on the present and future with a coach.

How is coaching different from consulting?

While there seems to be a fine line between consulting and business coaching, the difference is really in the fact that you hire a consultant as an expert who will tell you how to fix and will fix a particular problem. Deciding if and what to fix comes from our putting our heads together and then coming up with a plan to execute the fix. Many small business owners or entrepreneurs prefer to work with a coach because they maintain complete control over the direction or decisions over what and how to "fix things". After all, you are the expert of the business.

When working with an ADHD coach to improve your personal, professional or business life, we take the same approach, working together using your expertise of your life and my expertise as an ADHD coach to create strategies that are specific to you.
